Rookie of the Year - Coltyn Lechinger

 

This person is a courteous driver on the track and an exceptional person off of the track. They are a great addition to this racing family. And, he did beat Dear Old Dad on the track! Coltyn, you had a great year of racing.

Driver of the Year - Blaze Scheid

This year’s Driver of the Year is not just a person who won a lot of races, but has drastically improved their skills on the track from when they first started racing. I think the mentality of a beginner racer is always focused on crossing that finish line first instead of how to cross that finish line first. As racers become experienced, they realize that it takes skill to make the oval of the track negotiable, and they become more aware of all of the elements on the track. The other drivers, for one, and the obstacles such as dips, soft spots or loose dust all have to be taken into consideration for the approximate 2-3 minutes they are going in circles with vision limited by a helmet. This person has a cool head and is respectful of the elements.

 

Spirit & Spark Award - Scott Jackson

The recipient this year goes to a person that is new to mower racing. This person engages not only with fellow racers, but the spectators as well. Here is a HINT. This GUY has really taken in the spirit of racing and the fans. He has gone all out with promoting our sport with his artistic and creative talent! He makes trinkets for the kids, hats to give to the crowd, and along with his dad, provides endless entertainment when he is on the track. He is soooo good with thinking about what would be good for the kids, I think he should open a Day Care.

 

Topsy Turvy - Tim Jackson

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured this year.  There were nine contenders who had flipped their mowers throughout the season. 

 

 

Best Looking Racing Mower - Jesse Vick

The flashier the mower, the more the crowd knows who to cheer for. Many fans refer to the mower rather than the driver when talking about the races.  This year's winner not only has a pretty blue, flashy mower...but it also puts on the best SMOKE show!

Bad Luck Award - Lloyd Giles

Some of travel from far away and some are fairly close. But, the distance doesn’t really make a difference on race day. When we pull into to Pits, we are pumped up and ready race. Then, sometimes, that some, little something, or sometimes that BIG something happens and blows our hopes and dreams of taking the checkered flag on this day. That is where the BAD LUCK award comes in.

 

 

 

Best Racing Venue - Gun Barrel City

Gun Barrel City goes above and beyond for the Lone Star Mower Racing Association. They have afforded us a safe, well groomed area to do what we love to do. Mike Howell, who originally brought us to race in Gun Barrel City, Texas and continues to work with us on track operations, from putting out the banners to working out the logistics of how to provide more space for our growing numbers of spectators. For keeping on top of Port-A-Potties .... which are so, so, so important. 
Paul Lyons carefully and thoughtfully grooms the track before and during each and every race. Every race, it is his goal to improve something for the next race. Only part of it is his job, but it is also something that he does on his off time.
Keith Bond has provided so much support for the LSMRA, both monetary, supplies and a voice for us to race here. He has graciously donated the Radar Gun so we can clock speeds on the track. How cool is THAT!
Brooke Adtkinson is ALWAYS there when needed, whether it is for scheduling races, going on radio spots to support the races, giving a SPACE for our banquet... Thank YOU, Brooke for allowing us to use the Community Center today for our banquet. Everything Brooke does is with a smile and tons of compassion for the LSMRA. Thank you Brooke.
And, of course, our Announcer, Mayor Brian Crull. Mr. Personality. How great does he make our races? The crowd loves him. We love him. He always has words of wisdom and he makes everyone around him feel at home.
There are many people behind the scenes that we are not aware of and we also would like to thank them for all they do.

Charles Powell Award - Paul Lyons

Charles Powell said that going to an LSMRA Race is like going to a Family Reunion you WANT to go to. That is probably the most true descriptive saying that ever was. This year’s Charles Powell Award goes to someone who is new to racing this year, but has been with us for a very long time. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and definitely do not go unnoticed. But, what many of us don’t know is that this person is paid during the week, during regular business hours to tend to the race track. However, he is not paid for all of the work he does on race day, and during any off work hours. He unselfishly gives his hard work and attention to dust and soft spots on the track to the LSMRA and all of the racers. Thanks for all you do for racers, the club and fans.

Dubba G Everyman Award - Dan Scheid

The person who has been awarded the Dubba G Everyman Award this year, is essential to the LSMRA. They are not a racer. They give their time freely on race day, consistently after race day is over, and they return home. A lot of us, when we pack up from a long, hot day of racing go home, unload our trailers. Wash the dirt off of our racing suit. Hit the shower and go on with our lives. This person has a lot of preparation to do prior to the races as well as after the races. I want to thank you all for being responsive to the posts that are put on Facebook regarding attendance to the races. You have no idea how much that helps the smooth operation of the races and the timing system. But mostly, we want to thank Dan Scheid for manning the timing system and being the center of everything that is important to the LSMRA. Thank you for everything you do for the LSMRA.

Emma Scheid, Lila Smith and Jaxson Scheid

This group of young uns are a force to be reckoned with. I wish we all had the energy and that they bring to the races. From setting up the track, to intermission and taking the track down, this group is constantly on the go. They are working the crowd, giving out flags, taking things like transponders to racers who forgot to get theirs, AND IT IS A LONG WAY FROM THE start/finish line to the Pits and back. They pass out stick horses at intermission take them back when the stick horse races are over. And there are a lot of stick horses. They are right there when anything, literally anything is needed. They never say, “I’ll do it in a minute.” And then forget. They get it done.

Thank goodness y’all live here. We try so hard to not take advantage of people, but we are so thankful you are here and are willing to put out the signs around Mabank, Gun Barrel and Payne Springs. Thank you for always putting them out and picking them back up .... if no one has stolen them.

Brittany Scheid

Race day for Brittany is frantic, hectic, FAST and tremendously
demanding. Brittany makes it look easy, but y’all, it is NOT. She is
doing the work of ten people and most of us don’t even realize it. She is another one who is not finished once she goes home. Those points that we love to see posted .... Brittany! The insurance forms that have to be reported ... Brittany! This wonderful banquet and meal ... Brittany. Y’all would be here all day if I go on. Yes, the paperwork, etc. is all part of the Secretary’s position, but DANG! Where is the pay? So, please, don’t let what Brittany does for the LSMRA go unnoticed. Thank you for ALL you do!

Eddy & Patti Akin

They have been a part of the LSMRA since 2006. That is 20 years, y’all. Eddy no longer races and it isn’t because he doesn’t want to. Dang those doctor’s opinions. But, they come, from ARKANSAS, to almost every race, a minimum of 6 times a year, and contribute their time and sweat to the LSMRA. Thank you so much for what you do on and off of the track.

Marion Neel

Rarely does he get the recognition of all that he does, but he does it with all the heart you could ask for for the LSMRA. Thank you, for all of it.

Sheri Charo

The presence you have given us on Social Media is unprecedented. The President of the USLMRA, Kerry Evans, was talking with Marion 2 days ago and he asked, “Who is doing your Facebook now?” Marion said, “Oh! That is Sheri Charro. Why do you ask?” Kerry said, “Your Facebook Page is sooooo entertaining.” He said that he really looks forward to seeing what is on there next and that the posts are very colorful and eye catching. Your ideas and your, “get it
done” is amazing!!!!  Again, I would be here all day listing all you have accomplished for us.
